Thus, the new fluidized-bed encapsulation technology under supercritical conditions allows the coating of thermolabile materials, the particle sizes of which do not exceed 100 microns, without particle agglomeration. The technology is increasingly being introduced into modern pharmaceutical production and requires further study to obtain effective and safe new-generation drugs. Currently, the encapsulation process has received new development due to the possibility of changing the pharmacological properties of drugs and the development of innovative equipment. Hard, soft and liquid active medicinal substances can be enclosed in different types of shells; therefore, this material is highlighted in a separate chapter.
Specifications
This feature allows you to encapsulate in a fluidized bed particles smaller than 100 microns without the formation of agglomerates. In this case, supercritical fluid is used both as a solvent for a dispersible solution and as a fluidizing agent. This installation consists of three units: carbon dioxide supply system; an extractor in which carbon dioxide is saturated with a coating material; high pressure reactor. The volume of the reactor is 500 cm3; the maximum pressure in the system is 30 MPa, the maximum temperature is 373 ° C. Before carrying out the process, the reactor is loaded with encapsulated material.

To fluidize the bed of particles from the bottom of the apparatus, pure carbon dioxide is fed through a perforated bottom. It has been experimentally confirmed that with increasing pressure in the system, the minimum fluidization rate decreases. The encapsulation process begins after thermal equilibrium is established in the reactor. Carbon dioxide passes through an extractor, in which it is saturated with a coating substance and sprayed by a nozzle in the reactor. As a result of dispersion, submicron-sized droplets are formed, which settle on the surface of the particles and spread, forming a thin film. After coating, the particles are dried.
