Plasdon polymers have excellent adhesion, good film-forming properties, surface-active properties and high solubility in water and many pharmaceutical solvents. Due to this combination of properties, these polymers are widely used in a number of drugs. Plasdon polymers have long been used as binders in wet granulation. Plasdone®S-630 Copovidone is a synthetic 60:40 linear polymer of N-vinyl-2 pyrrolidone and vinyl acetate. With its unique properties, Plasdone S-630 is well suited as a tablet bonding agent for direct compression and dry granulation, as well as a wet granulation bonding agent.

Specifications

The granules obtained with PVP are hard, easy-flowing granules to form harder tablets with low brittleness. The PVP polymer improves the solubility of the active substance by complexing. In addition, PVP acts as a crystallization inhibitor. The patterns below are identified by the BASF Fine Chemicals Division. They are examined by the example of Collidon. Wet granulation using Kollidon 25, Kollidon 30 and Kollidon 90F usually results in a harder granular material with better flow properties than with other binders with less abrasion and higher bonding strength. The content of the polymer used in the granulating liquid may vary within the range of: Kollidon 25 - 2-5%; Collidone 30 - 2-5%; Kollidon 90F- 1-3%.

Tips for our customers

Thus, BASF research has shown that when using Collidone 90F, tablet hardness is greatest at the same compression pressure. All binders were used in an amount of 3%. On the basis of the data presented, it can be concluded that calcium phosphate tablets have increased hardness and reduced fragility when used as a binder in the wet granulation process of Collidone 30. In addition to Collidon, there are a large number of substances used in the pharmaceutical industry as binders. Consider two of them. Plasdon FPovidone is a series of synthetic water-soluble homopolymers of N-vinyl-2 pyrrolidone.
