In recent years, the performance of tablet presses has improved significantly due to advances in mechanical and electrical engineering. The newly developed heavy-duty machines are capable of producing huge quantities of tablets. The security of tablet presses is becoming more and more important. For many foreign and domestic companies, ease of cleaning is an increasingly important criterion in the operation of equipment, so many pharmaceutical companies use WiP (Wash in Place) technology, which reduces cleaning time by several times. Quick and easy in-process readjustment of the tablet press is also an important criterion for many pharmaceutical companies. In the IMA/KILIAN Synthesis tablet press, the upper press rollers are mounted on swivel supports. This allows for easy maintenance and cleaning of the pressing area as well as a quick change of the matrix table. The working area is completely isolated by means of special seals, which prevents the product from entering the mechanical area of the machine.

The tablet output tray is also designed on a swivel hinge, providing optimal access to the output area, which simplifies maintenance and cleaning of the equipment. The parameters of the tablet press can be analyzed using a special APT program. The program is a system for designing, analyzing and controlling production processes by repeatedly evaluating critical quality and technical parameters of raw materials, intermediate products and the processes themselves in order to improve the quality of the final product. Product control on the line is only one small part of a larger analytical system. This is where NIR technology has recently come to the forefront. To meet customer demands, IMA has already equipped some of its presses with a NIR system to monitor tablet homogeneity. FETTE has also integrated analytical components into tablet presses and their peripherals. Examples include measuring the pressing force inside the press, determining the weight, hardness, diameter and thickness of the tablet, and analyzing the active ingredient at the periphery.
