There are three ways of introducing medicinal substances into the suppository base, which are determined by the physico-chemical properties of the components: All water-soluble components are introduced in the form of aqueous solutions; fat-soluble substances are introduced in the form of fat solutions; substances insoluble in water and fats are introduced in the form of suspensions of powders ground in the bases. The resulting solutions or suspensions are called concentrates.
