SG type apparatus manufactured by NPO “Pharmmedoborudovanie” is used for granulation of powders in a fluidized bed, subsequent drying and powdering. This process is periodic. The body of the apparatus is made of three all-welded sections, successively mounted with each other. The principle of operation is as follows: 30 kg of tablet mixture to be granulated is loaded into the product tank in accordance with the recipe. The cart with the initial components is rolled into the apparatus and lifted. The air temperature required for fanulation is set, the time of mixing, fanulation and drying is set, as well as the cycle and frequency of shaking of bag filters. The fan is switched on by means of a gate which regulates the flow rate of fluidizing air, the required degree of fluidization of the processed mass is set. At preset time intervals the damper in front of the fan is closed, the actuator is switched on, shaking the bag filters, and at certain time intervals the nozzle and the dosing pump supplying the fanulating liquid are automatically switched on – the tablet mixture is fanulated.

Glatt batch fluidized bed granulators. These machines combine the processes of granulation, agglomeration, drying and coating, using top and bottom atomization of granulating liquid.
For batch granulation, the dry feedstock is loaded into a receiving container. There it is agitated in a turbulent flow of heated gas while being kept in suspension and agglomerated (granulated) by spraying a suitable binder. The product is then dried to a certain residual moisture content in a process characterized by high heat and mass transfer coefficients. The batch size in various fluidized bed batch machines ranges from 20 g to 1500 kg.
An innovation in fluidized bed technology was Glatt’s development of the SpinFlow bottom, which gives the fluidized bed an additional rotational motion. The resulting tangential forces result in higher granulate density, good flowability, uniform particle size distribution and reduced fine dust formation. The design of this bottom is the basis for an optimal granulation production process in the fluidized bed plant and produces ideal granules for subsequent process steps.
