Powders obtained by spray drying and combined spray and freeze drying have fundamental differences in particle shape. At the same time, the residual moisture content, surface properties of particles obtained by these two methods were similar. In both cases, the bulkiness was unsatisfactory. With the use of additives, an improvement in bulkiness was observed. In view of the above, it becomes obvious that there is a need to improve the energy efficiency of freeze dehydration technology, to develop new equipment, to create combined drying methods aimed at improving the quality of the obtained products. The powders obtained in this way can be used for further encapsulation, pressing, epidermal administration, as well as for increasing the solubility of poorly soluble substances. Some scientists have also investigated the effect of the drying method on powder friability, which depends on a combination of different factors: size, shape, and surface properties of the particles. The comparison of spray and combined spray and freeze drying methods was carried out in terms of such indicators as: particle size and shape; moisture content, physical and chemical properties; the influence of additives and coatings on the friability of powders.
