Granulation takes place in the separation part of the drying chamber. The granulator is a screw extruder, which pushes the plastic mass through a perforated mesh with predefined hole sizes. Pellets are removed by rotating knives located under the net. Wet granules, freely falling in the vertical part of the drying chamber, are dried in an upward flow of heated air and, falling on the gas distribution grid, are dried, being in a state of fluidization. Small particles formed in a fluidized bed, meeting with wet granules in the vertical part of the apparatus, settle on them, as a result, the entrainment of particles is significantly reduced. A gas purification system is provided in the installation: the exhaust air passes through a cyclone and a bag filter.
The main stages of the combined processes are mixing the components, moistening the mixture with a binder solution, granulating, drying the granulate and adding dusting substances. All these processes can take place in one device. Combined processes are difficult to operate, control and manage, but this technology provides a number of significant advantages, namely: combining itself (a unit of equipment), minimizing the area, minimizing energy consumption, reducing the consumption of auxiliary materials, minimizing working hours and the number of staff, and ease of washing and other treatments. The positive aspects of using this technology bring it to a high level and make it the most common and popular in the modern pharmaceutical industry. Specialized equipment (dryers, mills, containers, granulators) can be built into a technological chain.

For example, to ensure uniform particle size distribution of the material, vertical granulators are often used in conjunction with a GSF rotary screen. The granulation process is easy to modify. There are various options for carrying out the combined process of granulation and drying: granulation under vacuum, a double heat-shielding shirt. The big advantages of the method are gentle drying of the product in vacuum up to 10 mbar and a relatively small technological space, which is quickly and easily cleaned; granulator with a double heat-shielding jacket and an additional microwave dryer; granulator with a supply of drying gas from the side of the rotor blades. Using the example of a granulator dryer, consider the combined process of granulation and drying. The drying chamber is a vertical pipe with an expanding separation part. The lower part of the chamber ends with flanges, between which a grid (gas distribution grid) is inserted to carry out the fluidization process of the dried material.
